The Sunday Bikedays Programhas been in existence for

46 years

Program has grown from 30kmroute to include +50km of parkways

• Past Counts have estimated over 290 000 participants throughout the season and more than 890 000 visits

• Satisfaction rate of 99%

• 56% man and 43% women

• 83% of adults without kids

• Sunday Bikedays allows users to appreciate the Capital’s environment (98%)

250-350 Individual volunteers

2 000 person-hoursof volunteer time

• On-site promotion consists of parkway entrance signs, street closure signs, sandwich boards and NCC feather banners

• Marketed through the use of radio and newspaper advertisements, maps, web site and Social Media

Mission

“The Sunday Bikedays program highlights the Capital’s parkway

corridors and adjacent parks, and provides an opportunity for

Canadians to experience the Capital in an active manner and to

appreciate the national significance of its natural assets”

Consultation process

Collaboration with members of the community, public and private organizations, and various government organizations

contributes to the renewal and reachof the Sunday Bikedays program

Context and objectivesDynamic workshop

Context: The Capital Urbanism Lab workshop provided an opportunity to help establish the SBD strategic plan objectives

Objectives: Municipal, economic and community stakeholders discussed three different themes

Process and tools: Participants were divided into groups, each workshops lasted for 30 minutes. Paper, pencils and maps. Plenary at the end.
