The Book Of Dreams

Dreamland SchoolGhana

Dreamland School is exactly what its name represents: First, it is a school whose very existence is the product of an incredibly ambitious dream of a few individuals to build a place where impoverished children in Akumadan, Ghana, could learn, live and grow in a safe and pro-tected environment. Second, creating this environment allows the students to dream about what they would like to be when they grow up, and tries to help them to achieve those dreams. This collective dream and the individual dreams of the students cannot be realized without your help. The Book of Dreams is an annual ongoing project spon-sored by the non-profit organization American Friends of Dreamland School, whose founders were the first volunteers of the school in 2009 and who also share the dream of helping the children of Dreamland School to fulfill all their dreams.

The book contains real pictures of all the current 8th and 9th grade students, accompanied by copies of the letters each student has written, which gives the reader an idea of what each one is like and what their dream is for the future, hence “The Book of Dreams”. Since Dreamland School only has the capacity for levels Nursery School through 9th grade, the focus of The Book of Dreams is on the students who will soon be leaving. For that reason we decided to make the book is an E-Book, which could be modified each year, allow-ing the incoming 8th graders to be a part of it.

Since there are significantly less high schools in Ghana than there are primary and middle schools, many stu-dents fall through the cracks after 9th grade, as they don’t have the resources to travel to high schools in other areas, or perhaps they drop our earlier, know-ing that there is nowhere for them to go in the future.

That number dwindles even more at the University level, as the number of universities is quite low. This is where you, the reader, become a part of this project. We encourage you to look at the pictures and read the let-ters and choose a child or children to sponsor. It may be how they smile that captures you, or perhaps that they aspire to do what you do now. Imagine if you were one of these children, full of hope, passion for learning and with dreams of achieving some-thing that perhaps no one in their family or even their village was ever able to accomplish. The only barrier to achieving their dreams is an economic barrier, which you, the reader may be able to move out of their path, so that they can achieve their dreams.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for tak-ing the time to read The Book of Dreams and we hope you will join us in this collective effort to make dreams come true for the wonderful children of Dreamland School Ghana.
