ROLE OF THE RENTALSMAN
3 Types of Relationships between Landlords & Tenants:
Business / Contractual / Law
Office of the Rentalsman• Enforce the Law• Investigate Complaints• Mediation Services• Educate and Inform Tenants and Landlords• Administer the Security Deposit Trust Fund• Adjudicate matters that cannot be resolved by
mediation
LANDLORD’S OBLIGATIONS
To deliver and maintain the premises and any chattels clean, in a good state of repair, and fit for habitation;
To comply with all health, safety, housing and building standards and any other legal requirement respecting the premises ;
To keep all common areas in a clean and safe condition.
TENANT’S OBLIGATIONS
Pay Rent
To maintain ordinary cleanliness of premises and any chattels provided
To repair within a reasonable time any willful or negligent damage to the premises or any chattel supplied by the landlord
To conduct himself/herself and require his/her guests to conduct themselves in a manner that will not cause a disturbance or nuisance
