Our Family Tree By: Ally Marquez

What we have in Common:• My great grandpa from my dad’s side originated from

Germany he was wanting to travel and had ended up traveling to the states and ended up actually in southern California and he was pulled there for the amount of work that was offered so he ended up staying and working in the primary sector on mines.• My great grandpa from my mom’s side originated from

Germany where he lost his job and his mom and decided to move to the United States due to the fact that jobs were pretty much being handed out.

Common continued:• Still on my dad’s side my great grandma had came

from Zacatecas , Mexico she was pulled to go move to the states with just wanting a better lifestyle and just all the wars going on in Mexico at the time. • On the other hand my great grandmother from my

moms side traveled to the stated after going through some rough patches in Mexico City. The U.S. was like a safe haven to them and decided to move to California.

My Mom’s side:

• My great grandma was from Poland she had loved it there while growing up but the climate was just very harsh conditions while living there so she actually went to Ireland.

• My great grandpa was actually born in Ireland and just working on his farm and ended up meeting my great grandma at a pub one afternoon. Years later they both were pushed to moving to the states because my great grandpa had got some work on the Erie canal.

My assimilation :• On my dad’s side my great grandma would have a

reunion and everybody would help make food and play games, and of course dance but after this upcoming year as she passed she was our rock of the family and kept everyone sane, this tradition has turned almost into honoring her afterlife by still coming together as a family.

My Dads side• On my fathers side both my Great Grandmother and

Great Grandfather originated from Chihuahua in Mexico but he reason for them coming to America is unknown. Most likely it was for better jobs and living conditions.

• My great grandfather worked a truck driver and in many different restaurants. My great grandmother worked in one of the restaurants that he worked it and is where they first met and later fell in love and married.

My Assimilation• A tradition that we have made along the years is to

get everyone from our family every 5 years or so and have a full weekend to celebrate it. The reason it s only every 5 years is because of the fact that its hard to pick a day where everyone is free. Everyone is invited. If one of us has a girlfriend or boyfriend they are invited because they’re already considered family
