Modern Environmental Problems

What Is an Environment?

All the living things and the characteristics of the area where we live (temperature, humidity, soil, etc)

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

POLLUTION DEFORESTATION DESERTIFICATION

EXTINCTION OF ANIMALS HABITAT LOSS

The accumulation of

harmful substances on the

ground, water and air

causes pollution.

Dissapearance of forest,

cutting down of trees,

pollution and fires cause

Desertification.

The transformation of some landscapes into desert areas when the soil becomes dry and poor is called desertification

Habitat lossoccurs when natural areas are destroyed to make room for housing or industry.

Excessive development, hunting, fires and other actions cause

extinction of animals.

Global Warming

is a general increase in world temperatures caused by increased amount of carbon dioxide around the Earth.

Air pollution

The air in our towns and cities is very polluted with gases, car fumes, smoke. It is becoming more and more difficult to breathe.

The destruction of the ozone layer

The ozone layer is damaged and it is very dangerous for our planet. The ozone layer is a layer of gases in the sky

that prevents harmful radiation from the sun from reaching the Earth

Deforestation

is the cutting down or burning down of all the trees in the area. It means that birds, animals and insects have nowhere to live and become extinct. The amount of oxygen is reduced because trees produce it

Acid rain

The rain that contains harmful acid which can damage the environment and is caused by chemicals in the air from cars and factories.

Many environmental problems are caused byhuman actions. That is why we are responsible forfinding solutions to these problems.

1. Reduce pollution:

reduce the amount of garbage we produce.

2. Avoid cutting down trees: we can plant trees in agricultural areas or substitute wood for other materials.

3. Outlaw the hunting of animals: if animals are in dangerof extinction.

4. Protect specific natual areas: they are importantbecuase of their natural resources. Hunting and cutting treesmust be forbidden.
