Stop frame animations.

Research.

A stop frame animation is a technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move by

it’s self. This means that we will need to move the object

of choice a small amount between individual photograph and hopefully when all of the

photographs are put together, it will create the illusion of movement.

In 1897 the first instance of stop frame animation was created by Albert E Smith and J Stuart Blackton

when they created The Humpty Dumpty Circus where a toy circus of animals and acrobats appeared

to come to life.

Over the years, stop frame animation films have

become extremely popular. Here are some examples of

stop frame animation films…

Wallace and Gromit by Nick Park.

James and the Giant Peach by Henry Selick.

Chicken Run by Nick Park & Peter Lord.

The Nightmare before Christmas by Nick Selick.

Corpse Bride by Tim Burton.

Stop frame animation has become very popular with

aspiring filmmakers and as a result sites such as youtube have become full of them. Due to it’s popularity, we have decided to

make our own.
