OrWhat I call

“Outsiders Assemblage”

Outsiders Art• to use the phrase Outsider Art to refer to the creative work of

artists who are self-taught and/or those who, for a variety of reasons, are what I consider fortunately impervious to being taught how to make art. It now includes all of the following:

• The naive, the innocent, the self-taught, the visionary, the intuitive, the eccentric; The schizophrenic, the developmentally disabled, the psychotic, the obsessive, the compulsive.

• These may include such categories as folk art, primitive art, tramp art, prison art, African sign painters, African coffin carvers, Haitian muralists, Australian Aboriginal painters and others.

By Frank Van Zant, 1920-1989Thunder Mountain Park in Imlay, Nevada is a marvelous collection of stone, found objects and concrete constructions, buildings, figures, walkways and fences. The place borders the south side of U.S Interstate Highway 80 smack in the middle of northern Nevada.

Altars

Assemblage

• is an artistic process in which a three-dimensional artistic composition is made from putting together found objects. The origin of the word (in its artistic sense) can be traced back to the early 1950s, when Jean Dubuffet created a series of collages of butterfly wings, which he titled assemblages d'empreintes.
