Opening Sequence

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqIclb4qsJI

In the opening sequence they

Use interesting 3D typography

Which is placed over the well

Known New York skyline.

The titles stand out from the

Buildings because of the bright

Silver colour used.

The music used in the

Opening sequence is slow and

Intense to create a dramatic

Atmosphere, they do this by using

Low and mellow strings.

The Editing is slow which builds and

Creates tension.

The opening sequence tells the

Audience that it is set in New York and the music and editing suggests it is a thriller.

The slow camera movement gives us the impression that we are watching over or spying which adds to the intense and dramatic atmosphere.

At the beginning of the sequence sound is used to create atmosphere and show the surroundings (use of thunder and traffic).

Throughout the opening sequence the large buildings make us feel isolated.

The high tremolo strings and the drone creates tension.

When the title (Panic Room) appears the music turns dissonant and crescendos to build the tension.

The tempo then becomes faster and there is a transition marked by this and a cymbal crash. There is a ticking noise which makes it more intense, the staccato strings also add to this.

The slow camera movement and the walking bass suggest that something is creeping up.

The camera then rises to reveal more of the skyline while a cymbal crashes and a crescendo which builds more tension.

Brass is then introduced to create a military theme.

Throughout the opening sequence it slowly builds tension by using sound, editing, mise en scene and camera work.
