View from Mark & Jennifer’s

balcony. You can see one of the

volcanoes is blowing steam today.

View of Guatemala City from a nearby highway.

This pic was taken on our trip to Antigua.

We spent a day in Antigua, the

historic Spanish colonial capital

of Guatemala.

Here I am in front of the Santa

Catalina arch with a hazy Volcan

de Agua in the background.

Mark, Jennifer and me on our mule ride at the coffee plantation.

Our mules had names of democratic U.S. presidents:

Mark is riding Truman, Jennifer is on Carter, and mine is Lyndon.

At this plantation the coffee bushes are

shaded by a species of trees from Australia.

Our coffee tour guide,

Esteban,

is teaching us about

harvesting coffee.

Coffee beans drying in the sun.

These beans have the skin and hulls

removed, but are not yet roasted.

This is the room where

coffee beans are

roasted and ground.

On the hike to

Volcan Pacaya.

This is where we

left the horses and

started hiking.

I’m roasting a hot dog

over a hole in the

ground. It’s very hot!

This volcanic rock was

deposited last May.
