FIRST CONDITIONAL

• IF + PRESENT, WILL+ INFINITIVE

• We use IF + PRESENT, WILL+ INFINITIVE to talk about a possible future

situation and its consequence.

• The if clause can come first or second

• If you study hard, you will pass your exam

• It’s raining outside, If you don’t take your umbrella, you will get wet

• If you don’t take a map, you will get lost

If you take a map …

you won’t get lost

You will find your way more easily

If you eat too much chocolate

You will get fat

Sometimes they use the first conditional to talk about

traditions and superstitions

If children put a missing tooth under the pillow at night,

The tooth fairy …

Will come and leave them some money

If you find a four- leaf clover…

You’ll be very lucky

If you break a mirror…

You will have seven years of bad luck

• If you throw a coin into a fountain and you make a wish…

• The wish will come true
