• Kolkata, India, has been nicknamed the City of Palaces and also the City of Joy. HISTORY ABOUT KOLKATA

1690 August, Job Charnok, an agent of East India Company (established 1600) settles in Calcutta.

1699 East India Company started developing Calcutta as a Presidency city.

1772 Calcutta became the capital of British India when the first governor-general, Warren Hastings, transferred all important offices to the city from Murshidabad.

Place of Clay Modeling Kumartooly is the place of

clay modeling. This place is as old as the city. Durga puja is the main festival of this city. Only the jaminders were do this puja in there mahal. For this reason they called the clay artist from Krishnanagar to create the goddess image. They came here and started living there. During the partition of the country some of the clay artist of Bangladesh came here and started there work. Hundred of the foreign tourist came here to see the art, and the image of the god and goddess.
