INTRODUCTION

• Lightweight concrete has unit weight< 120pcf

Final Year Project(G#25) 3

• Lightweight concrete can be produced by:1. Lightweight aggregates:

• Natural lightweight aggregates.• Artificial lightweight aggregates.

2. Admixtures:• Air entraining.• Admixtures that evolve gases.• Examples are chemrite Aer, lightcrete 02, aluminium powder.

• Construction chemicals suppliers in Pakistan are Sika, Imporient, Pagel and Apepak.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

• Solid bricks are used in high rise buildings.

• Causing heavy dead load.

• Causing more base shear.

• Greater stresses are generated.

• More reinforcement and heavy sections are needed.

4Final Year Project(G#25)16/5/2014

OBJECTIVE

Reducing the weight of masonry unit.

•Which can be achieved by:

• Using hollow bricks.

• Using hollow blocks.

• Using hollow blocks in lightweight concrete.

• Using solid blocks in lightweight concrete.

5Final Year Project(G#25)16/5/2014

METHODOLOGY

• We will use chemrite aer and lightcrete 02.

• We will test the efficiency of these admixtures in concrete and sandcrete samples.• Standard Samples

• Concrete (2000psi)• Sandcrete (1:3)

• Chemrite Aer (0.03%-0.15% )• Concrete (0.15%)• Sandcrete (0.15%)

• Lightcrete -02 (0.5%-1%)• Concrete (1%)• Sandcrete (1%)

NEW METHODOLOGY

• Contacting other suppliers like Sika, BASF and Pagel for

admixtures.

• Using aluminium powder.
