INTRODUCTION

HISTORYGOOGLE PROJECT LOON:

In 2008, Google had considered contracting with or acquiring Space Data Inc. , but didn’t do so.

Unofficial development on the project began in 2011 under incubation in GoogleX.

The project was officially announced as a Google project on 14 June 2013

THE PILOT TEST Project Loon start in june 2013. 30 balloons , launched from New Zealand’s South Island.

Pilot testers will be used to refine the technology.

THE TECHNOLOGY

Project Loon balloons float in the stratosphere as twice as high as airplanes and the weather.

They are carried around the Earth by winds and they can be steered by rising or descending to an altitude with winds moving in the desired direction.

People connect to the balloon network using a special internet antenna attached to their building.

The signal bounces from balloons to balloons then to the global internet back on earth.

HOW LOONS ARE DESIGNED???

ENVELOPE

After the Loon is completely designed it look like this……

Each balloon is equipped with a GPS for tracking its location .

Each balloon can provide connectivity to a ground area about 40 km in diameter at speeds comparable to 3G.

HOW LOON CONNECTS

Three radio transceivers. • balloon-to-balloon communications. • balloon-to-ground communication. • third for backup.

The balloons use antennas equipped with specialized radio frequency technology.

Project Loon currently uses ISM bands that are available for anyone to use.

The industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) radio bands .

Radio bands reserved internationally for the use of radio frequency (RF) energy for industrial, scientific and medical purposes other than communications.

ISM BANDS

Polarization means direction of electromagnetic waves are oscillating with the wind.

To avoid this cross-polorization issue,2 antenna are placed to receive signals driving in any direction and making their bandwith double.

How Does Antenna Receive A Clear Signal?

6.Advantages/disadvantages

1.Cheaper internet2.3G speed3.GPS expansion4.exploration

1.Crash incidents2.Stratosphere regulatory hurdle3.Political hurdle4.Negotiate with countries to buy radio frequencies5.Cost of operation is not revealed by google

5.Disaster management6.Remote communication7.Launching balloon does not require higher technical skills8.Intelligence gathering9.Satellite recreation10.Scientific data collection11.Wheather surveillance

Project loon is a ambitious project and the world will highly benefit from it.

project loon, an initiative to help fill in those internet gaps through the use of networked balloons.

The goal is to provide broad band-like internet for two thirds of the world that doesn’t have access to a reliable internet connection by balloon.

It is still in experimental phase.
