It came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar

Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto

the city of David which is called Bethlehem. To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife.

There was no room for them in the inn.

She brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling

clothes ,and laid him in a manger.

In the same country there were shepherds,

abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

Lo the Angel of the Lord came upon the shepherds,

and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were so afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for,

behold, I bring good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,

which is Christ the Lord.

This shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,

lying in a manger.

Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God,

and saying, Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men.

The shepherds said one to another, let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and

see this thing which has come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

They came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the baby lying in a

manger.

Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in the heart.

And the shepherds returned, glorified and praising God for all the that they had heard

and seen.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

Soon afterwards, some men who studied the stars came from the East to Jerusalem

and asked where is the baby born who be the king of the Jews? “We saw his star

when it came up in the east and we have came to worship him.

For this is what the prophet wrote Bethlehem in the land of

Judah, you are by no means the least of the leading cities of

Judah ; for from you will come a leader who will guide my

people.

And so they left, and on the way they saw the same star

they have seen in the east. When they saw it, how

Happy they were, what joy was theirs! It went ahead until

it stopped over the place were the child was.

They went into the house , and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, they knelt

down and worshiped him.

They brought out their gifts of gold ,frankincense and myrrh, and presented them to him.

After they had left, an angel of the lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said,’’

Herod will be looking for the Child in order to kill him.

So get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt, and stay there

until I tell you to leave.

Joseph got up, took the child and his mother and left during the night for Egypt,

here he stayed until Herod died.

An the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom:

and the grace of God was upon him.
