What happened in the second year of WW1?

January 19 - 20

● On January 19th two Zeppelins diverted and bombed Great Yarmouth, Sheringham, King's Lynn and the surrounding villages.

● They were aiming for Humberside.

● On February 4, 1915, Germany's Kaiser warned all the countries which were not participating in the war that if their boats entered the British territory they would be struck by German U-boats.

● This event led to the sinking of the Lusitania, an American boat on May 7th.

● An American boat was sunk by Germany. ● Before the war started, Britain declared that the ship would

be used for transportation only, from Liverpool to New York. ● Once the war started the ship was meant to go back to

Liverpool, with more than 1,000 civilians in it. ● The ship was secretly contrabanding munitions for America’s

allie.● German submarine targeted Lusitania.

● This was not the first time these kind of gases were used. The use of tear gas was previously used by France in 1912 in police operations.

● With the outbreak of war, Germany started developing new types of chemical gases. They had several trials before successfully implementing it for the first time in 1915 in a nuclear gas attack in Ypres, Belgium.

April 26

● Italy had an alliance with the Central Powers, Germany & A-H, in which she was obliged to enter the war in case any of them was attacked first.

● Nevertheless, Italy took A-H’s ultimatum to Serbia as an act of aggression, resolving they were free of their alliance obligations.

● She signs the Treaty of London, committing herself to enter World War I on the side of the Allies, but it is signed in secret because the alliance with the Central Powers was still in force.
