Alexander the Great

Alexander was still in his twenties when he had made it all the way to India from Greece. He died at the

young age of 32.

This English king infamously married 6 times in hopes to produce a male heir to the

throne.

King Henry VIII

King Henry married 6 times in hopes to produce a male heir. He divorced twice, beheaded two wives, and one died of natural causes. The last outlived Henry, himself. He produced no male heirs; however, his daughter, Queen Elizabeth I, became one of the most influential leaders in history.

In 1271, at the age of 14, I left on a trip with my father. For the

next 24 years, my adventures took me thousands of miles from

home (Europe), all the way to the Far East and into China. I brought back many treasures

and told of many amazing stories of what I saw. Who am I?

The Black Death/Plague

The Black Death was actually 3 different plagues caused by the same bacterium. It

travelled from Asia on the fleas of rats aboard merchant ships and ravaged

Europe.

For nearly 200 years (from 1095-1291), Christian Europeans

ventured to the Holy Land in an attempt to liberate it from the

Muslims. These series of expeditions are known as

The Crusades

In 1812, this leader marched an army of 600,000 soldiers in an attempt to invade Russia. The

invasion took place during winter and was a complete failure. Only 40,000 of his

soldiers survived.

Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon was defeated shortly after. This is considered one of the greatest military disasters

in history.

During the Hundred Years War, this young woman rallied French soldiers during the

Battle of Orleans and inspired them to defeat the English and rid them from France once and

for all.

Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc had visions from

God that told her to dress like

a man, join the army and fight

the hated English. She was actually

captured and burned at the stake

for being a witch. Her death

inspired the French to defeat the

English once and for all.

This Roman military leader and politician rose to the

position of Dictator but was murdered by other politicians

who believed he was becoming too powerful.

Julius Caesar

Caesar had high ambitions. He wanted to become emperor and be the next Alexander the Great. Roman politicians were wary that he would abuse his power and assassinated him. He was stabbed more than 20 times.

This “Great War” was started when a Serbian nationalist assassinated the Austria-Hungary Archduke Franz

Ferdinand.

World War I

This war started as a small, nationalist movement but quickly spread to a global conflict. World War I is often

referred to as the “Great War”.

Similar to Creekside’s “Code of Honor”, knights in the 12th and 13th centuries lived by a similar code that was influenced by the

church. This ideal of civilized behavior was known as C _ _ _ _

Chivalry

Under this ideal, knights were to defend the Church, protect defenseless people, treat captives as honored guests, fight for honor and glory and not material rewards.
