Working with Files

All data or information you put in your computer is stored as a

file.

When you are saving a new piece of work, you are also creating and naming a file.

When you are opening a file, you are retrieving or accessing it.

When you are adding data to this file or changing its contents, you are updating or editing.

When you are running a program, you are executing files.

When you are transferring a file from your computer and placing it to a server so others can see it, you

are uploading.

When you are getting a copy of a file through the internet and saving it to your computer, you are

downloading.

When you are converting a file from its original format to the format of the program you are currently using,

you are importing.

If you are converting a file you are currently using into different format, you are exporting it.

If you have a very large file and you want it to become smaller, you can compress it.
