Note, we see that the minimum value of this function is 1 which happens when x= -3.

You should be able to see why this is the case from the completed square form.

Note that if you choose ‘Show steps’ Wolfram Alpha will show the method for completing the square, but it is perhaps easier to solve this equation by factorising or using the quadratic formula.
