Why is Water Important?

By: Samantha Hosea

The Sun

drives the cycle

heats water in the ocean

causes the water to evaporate

Evaporation

Evaporation from the ocean

Sublimation: evaporation from ice and snow

Evapotranspiration: evaporation from plants and soil

Water Storage

Rising air currents take vapor up into the atmosphere

Cooler temperatures in the atmosphere make the water particles condense into clouds

Precipitation

Cloud particles collide and grow and then fall to the ground

falls as: rain, snow, hail, fog and sleet

Run Off

snowmelt: run off produced by melting snow

surface run off: precipitation on the ground

Ground water

Infiltration: water from the surface sinks into the ground

Ground water finds openings in the land surface/aquifers

ground water and run off stored in lakes

Ocean

Over time, the water reenters the ocean and the process starts all over again.

Describe

What are the different stages of the water cycle? Describe them

Create

Sketch a picture of the water cycle by using the paint program on your computer

Everyday

How does the water cycle affect you everyday? Present it in a slide share.
