Using Our Blackboard CourseHybrid Courses

(See different walkthrough for face-to-face courses)

What is a Hybrid Course?• Hybrid course work under varying definitions at

different colleges, but Collin defines its hybrid courses as a cross between an online course and traditional face-to-face course, with part of the class meeting online for one day and in class for another day during the class week.

• If yours is a hybrid class, your schedule will indicate it and the course will only meet once a week for either 50mins or 1.2hrs. If your course meets more than this, you are probably not enrolled in an official hybrid class—meaning this power point is not for you.

Hybrid Course

• If you are in a hybrid course, you will need to login to the online portion of our course during the designated time at least once (but likely more frequently) each class week (see our syllabus) and complete the discussion, readings, and activities housed there. The following slides will teach you how to navigate our course, which is slightly different from a regular Blackboard course shell.

Start Here

Getting Started…

• Click to “Access Blackboard”

• If you need help, call 972.377.1777

Select the three areas circled in GREEN and review them carefully….

Four Major Areas

• Start Here: you will find basic course information, your course calendar, and syllabus here.

• My Grades: your grades and comments can be found and reviewed here.

This is an example of a PDF reading assignment. Power point lectures will appear the same way.

Discussions & Major Assignments

• Discussion board occurs almost every week for a hybrid class either in Blackboard or in Turn-it-In for Peer Review Days. The assignment for the discussion board is at the end of the power point lecture under a given “week.”

• Essay drop-boxes and other major assignments are also available under the week they are due (see next slide for example).

Click “view/complete” and follow instructions to submit essay assignment….

End.
