‘‘The Little The Little Rooster and the Rooster and the Diamond Ring’ Diamond Ring’

A Hungarian StoryA Hungarian Story

Once upon a time an old lady had a little rooster. She was a poor old woman . They had no money to buy any food to eat.

The loyal rooster was looking for food when he spotted a shiny ring and said “I will take this to the poor old woman and she won’t be poor any more’ he said to himself. It made him happy to think that.

Along came the King’s servant, he saw the beautiful and valuable ring and took it from the rooster.

The little rooster flew to the King’s window. The little rooster started to scream as loud as he could “cock-a – doodle – do’ King, give me back my diamond ring!”

The King was very angry, he said to his servant, “ go my servant put the rooster in the royal well.” So the servant took the rooster to the royal well to drown him.

With his little craw, the rooster sucked up all the water in the well and saved himself from drowning.

The little rooster flew to the King’s window. The little rooster started to scream as loud as he could “cock-a – doodle – do’ King, give me back my diamond ring!”

The old King was so mean that he ordered his servant to put the rooster into the fire. The fire was boiling hot and full of flames. The poor old rooster was sweating and scared to be any where near the fire.

The rooster was very clever and said, “my little craw, spit out all the water to put out the fire.”

The little rooster flew to the king’s window. The little rooster started to scream as loud as he could “cock-a – doodle – do’ King give me back my diamond ring!”

The King ordered his servant to put the rooster into the royal beehive. The King said to his servant ‘Get that little rooster and throw him in the royal beehive!

In the beehive the clever little rooster sucked up all the bees, they didn’t even sting him.

The little rooster flew to the King’s window. The little rooster started to scream as loud as he could “cock-a – doodle – do King, give me back my diamond ring!’ The King said ‘give me that little rooster I will put him into my baggy pants, that will finish him off.’

The little rooster was so very clever that he let out the bees and the bees started to sting him on the bottom!

The mean King was so angry this time that he said to his servant, ‘bring that rooster to the treasure chest, give him back his ring and he will never bother us again.’

The little rooster was so pleased to get his diamond ring back. The kind little rooster flew home to the old woman and gave the ring to her. It was a very happy day for her.

The poor woman sold the ring and got lots of money for it. Since they sold the ring they have never been hungry again.
