Festivals are of 3 types .They are National Festival, Religious Festival Harvest Festival.
National Festival
Festivals which are celebrated by the entire nation are called national festival. Come lets see some national festivals
Independence day
India became independent on 15th August, 1947 .So the independence day is celebrated on 15 th August. The Prime Minister of our country hoists the flag at Red Fort in Delhi.
Republic Day
India became a democratic republic on 26 Janaury, 1950. we celebrate it as Republic Day.
The main function is held at Rajpath .
A special pared is taken out by the armed forces.
Gandhi Jayanti
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is better known as Mahatma Gandhi.
He is also known as the Father Of The Nation.
Religious Festivals
India is a land of many religions.
So, we have many religious festivals that are celebrated with joy across the country.
Diwali
Diwali is known as the festival of lights.
It is celebrated because on this day Lord Rama returned home to Ayodhya after 14 years in exil.
Holi
Holi is the festival of colours .
It is celebrated mostly in North India.
Rakshabandhan
On this day, sisters tie rakhi(a thread) 0n their brother s right wrist and pray for their safety.

The festival is celebrated as the day on which Lord Rama killed Ravana .
It is also known as Vijaydashmi.
Durga Puja
In West Bengal, Durga Puja is celebrated with great pomp and show.

The Sikhs celebrate the birthdays of all their ten gurus.
