The Faces of PreKindergarten

In PreK we learn lots of things about ourselves and each other.

Like our names, our favorite foods, our families, our special talents...

...and the things we like to do with our friends.

One way we learned about each other was by exploring our faces.

First, we talked about what we look like...

...then we used Sharpies to draw detailed outlines of our faces.

We worked with mirrors to help us see our faces clearly.

When we were all done drawing our faces we read Skin Again by bell hooks,

...which helped us see that no two skin colors are the same.

We used special paints to help us find the skin color that was just

right for us.

Then we started painting...

...and painting!

Finally, we added color to our hair, eyes and lips.

And our portraits were done!

During our "I am Special" days, we shared our talents and interests

with our classmates. "Oh say can you see..."

At the end of each day, we remembered the things we had learned about each other, and came up with special words.
