TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEMS

To study the terrestrial ecosystems, we have to consider these factors:

- Climate and temperature- Where we can find them

- Features - Fauna- Flora

TUNDRA

It is a very cold and dry place.

It is located near the North Pole.

There are no trees because the soil is very

poor

SAVANNAH

There are two seasons: the rainy season and the dry

season.

We can find savannahs in tropical areas, for example in Serengetti

(Africa) or Cerrado (Brazil)

there.

There are few trees and lots of grasses.

They are located in colder regions than savannahs.

We can find them in prairies, steppes and pampa.

TROPICAL RAINFORESTS

It is warm and wet all year long.

We can find this ecosystem in the tropical area: between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of

Capricorn.

This ecosystem is the house of half species of animals and plants on

Earth.

Snakes, monkeys, jaguars, parrots, toucans,

etc. live there.

They are located in cold areas.

We can find them in north Europe.

They are called coniferous because the seeds of the trees are inside

cones.

There are brown bears, foxes, deer, etc.

There are pine trees

and fir trees.

DECIDIOUS FORESTS

Summers are mild and winters are mild

too.

We can find them in north America and north Europe.

Most trees are decidious because they lose their leaves in winter.

We can find squirrels, brown bears, rodents,

owls, etc.

There are oak trees.

MEDITERRANEAN FOREST

There are hot summers and mild winters.

We can find it in areas next to the Mediterranean Sea.

This ecosystem suffers from fire,

droughts and urbanization.

We can find eagles, vultures, falcons, foxes, etc.

There are cork trees.

DESERTS

It is very hot and dry but nights are very cold.

We can find them in Africa, Australia, Asia, etc.

There are hot deserts, like

Sahara and cold deserts too.

We can find lizards, snakes,

scorpions, camels, etc.

There are lots of cacti, bushes, etc.
