Birth of the “Superstation”

» Turner bought the TV stationWJRJ in Atlanta

» Changed the name to WTBSfor the Turner BroadcastingSystem

» Began broadcasting thechannel through satellites toreach TVs all across America

» Became known as the“superstation” because thestation reached a audienceoutside of its normal viewingarea

CNN

» Turner created the first 24hour news channel

» He is a co-owner of Ted’sMontana Grill whichspecializes in bison meat

» He merged with the TimeWarner Group in 1995

» The Company then mergedwith AOL to create AOL TimeWarner

» Turner resigned in 2003 fromhis vice-presidentship
