Giving students responsibility for their own learning

Students can be found:• Monitoring animal behaviour via the school’s

PigCam & Eggcam• Completing their homework via Twitter and

Facebook• Visiting the Big Brother-style diary room• Broadcasting live to 30 million people in

Indonesia. These are not gimmicks or PR stunts: the innovative

We are not cheap skates but…

• Why spend £100s on video conference equipment? All you need is a cheap webcam & Skype or Twitcam

• Why spend £1000s on digital cameras when kids have mobile phones that are just as good?

• Why spend £10,000s on laptops when kids have them at home?

What do our students say about open source, social networking & web 2.0

tools?•“Enhance our learning”•“Make learning more interesting and fun”•“Learning skills to prepare for our future”•“Free, quick and simple to use”•“Accessible in school, at home, anytime & anywhere”•“They can be used in any subject”

ICT is not just a tool for learning but a whole new way of learning

• A responsibility to protect all our learners (E-safety & Acceptable Use)

• A responsibility to share the .net vibe
