Yoshimura  吉村

Although Yoshimura name is dominant at Fukuoka, Osaka and Nara. It is most concentrated at Nara in terms of index and at Osaka in terms of percentage score.

Kubota name are most numerous at. The highest percentage score is found at. But the greatest concentration in terms of index score map can be found at.

Yano 矢野

Yano name are generally numerous at southern part (Shikoku-Kyushu region) of Japan mainly on the provinces of Fukuoka, Ehime and Osaka. Highest percentage score are found on the said provinces. But in terms of index score, the province which has the highest concentration of name are Oita, Miagi, Ehime and Kouchi.

Takashi are numerous at the northern part of Japan such as Tokyo, Hokkaido and Tohoku. Tokyu and Hokkaido tops the percentage score. Takahashi is most concentrated at the Northern provinces of Miagi, Yamagata, Akita.

3. Implications of the Geography of Names

The distribution and concentration of Japanese surnames are regionally based such as the case of Takahashi name usually found at the Tohoku-Hokkaido region or of Yano names found at the Southern region (Shikoku-Kyushu). But even if the distribution of names have regional character, names are usually concentrated on few number of provinces.

Concentration of names on few provinces might imply that names originate from certain provinces. Names can be indicators to demonstrate the migration of certain families or clans from their province of origin and its regional pattern of migration movement.
