Session SummaryThis is a very brief overview of one teacher’s

use of technology in her first grade classroom. Cassidy created a classroom web page which she uses to communicate with parents. The classroom page has a link to each student’s individual web page. Cassidy states, “Of all the things I’ve done in my teaching career, nothing has ever inspired and motivated my children to learn the way that blogging and wikis and podcasts have.”

Important LinksThe following tools were used to create the class web page:• Blogmeister (http://classblogmeister.com/index.php)• Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/)• Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)• Bubbleshare (http://www.bubbleshare.com/home)• Wiki (http://room4-wiki.wikispaces.com/)• Kid Pix (http://www.learningcompany.com/jump.jsp?itemID

Questions/Ideas

I would like to know how much time the teacher spent inputting information for the students. I’m glad that young students are using technology; I just wonder how much they can do independently.

Personal/Professional Growth

This session inspired me to create a blog for our library and use it to allow students to share book recommendations and reviews.

Applications

• Use Flickr to share student book illustrations

• Use Audacity to share student book reviews

• Use Blogmeister to allow students to share book recommendations
