University Health Service

Health Care for Students!

What is University Health Service?

University Health Service (UHS) is an on-campus

clinic available for student use.

Our services include:

Primary Care ClinicWomen’s Care Clinic

Nursing ClinicBehavioral Health Clinic

Health Education/Prevention Services

Clinic Hours

Monday – Friday:8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Saturday 9 – 11 a.m.

Summer and when classes

are not in session: Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Who can use UHS?

• Full-time students are assessed the health fee with their mandatory fees and tuition.

• Part-time students can voluntarily pay the health fee or be seen on a fee for service basis.

• Summer coverage available with optional health fee or on a fee for service basis.

2014-2015 Health Fee: $175/semester

What does the Health Fee Cover?• Unlimited office visits

for:– Injury or illness– Allergy injections

• Well-patient physical exams

• Women’s care (gynecology)

• Observation room care • Phone information

nurse• On-call physician for

emergency after hours

• Limited medications • Behavioral Health

office visits• Access to health

education resources • Health education

and wellness services:– Nutrition Counseling– Tobacco Treatment

Counseling– Sexual Health Education

Session

What is NOT Covered under the Health Fee?

The health fee is designed to cover primary care and preventive medicine. Items not covered by the health fee include:– Diagnostic testing (X-rays, most lab tests)– Hospitalization– After hours care: Urgent Treatment, Emergency

Room– Surgical procedures– Referrals to specialists– Prescriptions– Vaccines

Students are encouraged to have health insurance to cover these expenses

Vaccines

• University of Kentucky requires Meningitis vaccine for all students living in campus housing.

• The University of Kentucky strongly recommends that all incoming students be immunized before enrollment (either through vaccination or naturally acquired immunity) against the following illnesses:

Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Polio, Varicella, Tetanus/Tdap, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Hepatitis B,

Meningococcal Meningitis, and HPV.

Insurance

Health insurance is highly recommended.

UHS accepts the University-sponsored insurance as well as

dependents on UK-HMO

Student can turn in charges for

PAWS CenterPromoting & Achieving Wellness for Students

• The PAWS Center assists students in reducing their health risks through education, goal setting, lifestyle coaching, outreach events and support services. We value health and wellness for academic success and strive to promote a healthy lifestyle for students!

• The center is located on the first floor of UHS and offers the following:– Health education literature and resources including info about

nutrition, quitting tobacco and sexual health.– Health education models – Health education and wellness programs.– Student peer health educators.– Computer and internet access. – We can help students get connected to other campus resources!
