Saving Locally When saving to the laptop’s hard drive it is called
saving locally. This is the icon to double click on to
open a window to see what is saved on your laptop.
You will see your name underneath the icon.

Saving to the server This is icon to opens a window so you can see what is
saved on school’s server. It is called ‘computer’. It is
more secure to save your work on the server.
If you have a CDROM or a
DVD in your laptop this icon
will appear in ‘computer’.
When you insert a USB device
(e.g. a memory stick, your digital
camera) this icon will appear in
‘computer’.
This icon show your space
on the server. Only you
can access this area. You
need to be logged on with
your username and
password to see this area.
This icon show the shared
space on the server. Everyone
can access this area. This is a
good space to put documents
to be shared by everybody.
Be careful not delete
documents and keep it tidy!
1. Click on ‘file’
2. Click on ‘save’ or ‘save as’.
3. This window will appear.
4. Click on this arrow head.
5. This box will appear.
6. Click on ‘computer’.
7. This window will appear.
8. Scroll down to find your space
on the server and double click.
9. You have now accessed your space on the
server. Decide which file to save it in and click on
save.
