RefWorksisanonlinebibliographicmanagementsystemthatallowsyoutoimportcitationsfromover800databasesandtheWUlibrarycatalog.RefWorks2.0isreplacingtheclassicversionofRefWorks.IfyouwouldliketouseRefWorks2.0,youmustselectRefWorks2.0fromwithintheclassicversion.Youcanswitchbacktotheoldviewatanytime.

What can I do with RefWorks 2.0?  

1. SubscriptiongiveseachWUfacultyandstudentafreeaccount.CreateandmanagebibliographiccitationsinyourpersonalRefWorksdatabase.

Getting Citations into RefWorks

1. SearchtheWUCatalogtofindthecitationsyouwant.Markeachrecord(clickonthebookselectedbox)andadropdownmenuwillappear.

2. Selectanaction:ExportselectiontoRefWorks

3. TheRefWorkslog‐inscreenwillappear.LogintoyourRefWorksaccount.4. Yourrecordsshouldimportautomatically.

5. Clickontheediticon nexttoeachitemtocheckyourreferencetoensurethatithasimportedcorrectly.

Organizing References and Creating Citations 

OnceyouarecomfortableaddingreferencestoRefWorks,youcanorganizethemintofoldersandgenerateformattedbibliographiesandin‐textcitations.

Organize References Into Folders Toseeallyourreferences,selectView > All References.Ifyouwanttoorganizeyourreferences,youneedtousefolders.

Hands‐On Creating a Folder   

1. ClickontheNewFolderaccessbuttonabovethereferences

area .Intheresultinglightbox,giveyourfolderaname,forcourseorsubjectcategory.Youcanmakeasmanyfoldersasyouwant.ClickonCreate.

2. Toviewallthefoldersyouhavecreated,clickontheFolderstab.

Youwillbetakentoafoldermanagementarea.Inthisarea,youseealistofallofyourfoldersandthenumberofreferencessavedineach.Referencesnotfiledintofoldersarealsolistedabovethefolderlist.Clickonanyfolderforalistofitsreferences.

3. GotoView > All References toseeallyourreferences,regardlessoffolderplacement.Checktheboxnexttoeachreferenceyouwishtomoveintoyournewfolder.

4. Fromthefolder widget selectthenameofthenewfolderyoujustcreated. 5. YouwillbetakenbacktotheAll Referencespage,butyoushouldseethenameofthefolderto

whichyoujustaddedyourreferences.

Bibliographies and Citations 

YoucangenerateaformattedbibliographyfromalistofreferenceswithinRefWorksandcreateallin‐textcitationsmanually.Alternatively,youcandownloadandinstalltheWrite‐n‐Citeplug‐inforMicrosoftWordandRefWorkswillhandleallin‐textcitationsandbibliographycreationwithinWordautomatically.

Hands‐On Creating a Bibliography Within RefWorks 

1. ClickontheCreateBibliography button.2. SelectthedesiredOutput Style from the drop‐down menu.
