General Facts 2007
• Post-graduate enrollment was 1.1 million, with 400,000 new students and 260,000 graduates.
• Undergraduate enrollment was 17.39 million, with 5.4 million new students and 3.77 million graduates.
• Vocational schools had 18.09 million enrolled students, including 7.41 million new entrants and 4.76 million graduates.
• High schools had 25.15 million enrolled students, including 8.71 million new entrants and 7.27 million graduates.

Chinese Students in the US
• There are currently over 60,000 Chinese students studying in the US, the 2nd-highest of any country after India.
• China sends 134,000 students abroad annually, more than any other nation, and increased by 11% since 2003.
• 80% of Chinese students abroad pay they own way, according to Chinese MOE.
• Chinese students have a 50% rate of choosing to live in their country of study abroad.
• The US is currently the Number-1 destination for Chinese students, but is facing rising competition from UK, Australia, and Canada.
• China has over 20 million students studying in universities at present with a gross college enrollment rate of 19 percent. In 2006, a record high of 9.5 million people have applied for college in China.
• 82% of Chinese students studying in the US are post-graduate students, while undergraduates abroad have increased at an annual rate of 40% over the past three years.

• Well-known colleges and universities have greater name
recognition and require less-motivated student recruiting

• However, this is not the case for the majority of U.S.
universities and colleges in China
• In a brand-conscious market, less well-known schools must
implement active and strategic recruitment programs to
establish credibility in China’s increasingly savvy education
