Your Own Prediction Methods for Weather Forecasting

Every prediction method is based on the same principles:

Low pressure brings rain, and major weather systems move from west to east.

Predicting the weather is all about recognizing the signs of pressure change in your area.

Predicting weather by Animal Behavior…

If they are flying high in the sky, there will probably be fair weather. Falling air pressure caused by an imminent storm causes discomfort in birds' ears, so they fly low to alleviate it. Large numbers of birds roosting on power lines indicates swiftly falling air pressure.

Birds get very quiet immediately before it rains.

Take note of the birds….

stay close together if bad weather is on the way.

On a very hot day when the humidity starts to build, millions of normally Earth-bound ants are seen.

In preparation for bad weather, red and black ants build up their mounds for extra protection or to cover the mounds’ holes.

Record the temperature of your area of this month with a digital or centigrade thermometer for few days at different times of the day. And make comparison with the help of histogram or pie diagram and comment on global warming.

Make your own Rain Gauge and record the rainfall in your area:

You can find out how much rain falls where you live by making your own rain measure.

You will need:

An empty plastic bottle ScissorsSticky tapeRulerPaperPencil

What to do:Cut around the plastic bottle about two thirds of the way up.Turn the top part of the bottle upside down and place it inside the bottom part - fix it in place using the tape.

Make a scale in centimeters on a piece of tape, using a ruler, and fix it to the side of your bottle.

Find a place outside to put your rain gauge. It must be open and away from trees.

Dig a hole and bury your rain gauge so that the top is sticking out about 5 cm out of the ground. This will stop the rain gauge from blowing down on windy days.

Check the rain gauge every day at the same time, measure the amount of rain collected, and empty the bottle.

Visit a local hospital or an Asha worker.

Collect the information of some seasonal diseases.

Record the number of diseased person (season wise)

Compare this data with last 3 to 4 years.

Make a comparison.

And comment on the effect of weather on human health.

Predict the Weather Without a ForecastLook for a rainbow in the west

This is the result of the rising sun's morning rays from the east striking moisture in the west. Most major storm fronts in the Northern Hemisphere travel west to east, and a rainbow in the west means moisture, which can mean rain is on its way. On the other hand, a rainbow in the east around sunset means that the rain is on its way out and you can look forward to sunny days. Remember: Rainbow in the morning, need for a warning

Gaze at the moon If it is reddish or pale, dust

is in the air. But if the moon is bright and sharply focused, it's probably because low pressure has cleared out the dust, and low pressure means rain. A ring around the moon (caused by ice crystals in the sky and moisture) can indicate that rain will probably fall within the next three days.

Remember :  Circle around the moon, rain

or snow soon.

Detect the direction of the wind To detect the wind

direction, throw a small piece of grass in to the air and watch its descent. East ward wind can indicate an approaching storm front. West ward winds mean good weather. Strong winds indicate high pressure differences, which can be a sign of advancing storm fronts.

Feel the Wind with a Fire…

Make a campfie:

 The smoke should rise steadily. If the smoke swirls and descends, it is caused by low pressure, meaning rain is on the way.

Observe the leaves of a tree….

 Deciduous trees show the undersides of their leaves during unusual winds.

If you notice the underside of the leaves of a tree it may alert you for a typical strong winds.

Check for humidity with your hair….

You can feel humidity in your hair (it curls up and gets frizzy). These leaves also tend to curl in high humidity, which tends to precede a heavy rain.

Under humid conditions, wood swells (look out for those sticky doors)

And common salt clumps.
