There are three points we would like to make.
Iași is known as the Cultural Capital of Romania and he is a candidate to become, in 2021, the European Capital of Culture.
This amazing city has traditionally been one of the leading centers of Romanian social, cultural, academic and artistic life.
Iași is home for high quality cultural centers and festivals, an array of museums, memorial houses, religious and historical monuments. 3
One of the most representative historical places of Iași is the Union Square (where the Union of Romanian
Principalities took place.
During World War II and the Communist Era many historical buildings in the old city center (around Union Square area)
were destroyed or demolished, and replaced by International style buildings.

We might add that Iași features historical
monuments, 500-year-old churches and monasteries,
contemporary architecture, many of
them listed on
Notable architecture includes the Trei Ierarhi Monastery, part of the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Site, or the neo-Gothic Palace of Culture,
built on the old ruins of the mediaeval Princely Court of Moldavia.

Romania, a late Renaissance style, with Baroque elements

Furthemore, a must see in Iași is the religious celebration of St. Paraschiva every year on October 14.
It is impressing and majestic. Peolpe from all over Romania come to pray to its mumyfied body. It is said
that if you pray at the Saint cofen, it will bring you luck and good health.

In addition, Iași has a diverse array of public spaces, from city squares to public parks.
Two cases in point are:

Cultural life for tourists
We would like to mention briefly that The Palace of Culture from Iași was
closed for renovations and is the most recognizable edifice.
It’s home for four museums that,
together, make up the Moldova
National Museum Complex: The Art
Museum, The Ethnographic Museum of Moldavia,
Moldavia's History Museum and the
Science and Technology Museum.

Iași is home to memorial houses. To illustrate this point, let us consider first Memorial House from
Romania opened in Iași in 1918 as Ion Creangă Memorial House, and today the Iași
Romanian Literature Museum owns twelve memorial houses.

If you want to visit a special place, go to an exciting memorial house. Here is the house where one of the
famous Romanian poets lived: Mihail Codreanu. It is opened for tourists from 1970 and attracts many visitors
every year.You may see typical
Romanian rooms decorated exactly as in the 18th century.
Even the table is arranged exactly like then. It is a unique
occasion to meet and “taste” our history!

Let us conclude that exhibits presented are characterized by simplicity, common sense and modesty specific to the
Moldavian peasant, generating a strong sense of piety, not only for what they represent to the memory of a lot of
personalities from Romania, but because they are genuine testimonials of people and popular tradition of region.
