Carnival.

Carnival is a festive season which occurs immediatly before lent; The main events take place usually during February. Carnival typicaly involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, masks and public street party. People always wear costumes during the celebrations. This dates back to celebrations before the former longer Advent season (40 days before Saint Week), or with harvest celebrations.

Carnival of Badajoz.Carnival of Badajoz is the best in all Extremadura. In this

carnival the people wear very original costumes.

Carnival for young people.The young people in carnival make a party in the street

and participate in the contest of the carnival groups called Chirigotas.

Carnival in La Serena.People do a party in the country and in the afternoon they do the

contest of carnival groups. At the end of the celebration people do a funerary parade for the dead sardine, the people cry and grieve plubicly and they dress in black.

Performance of the Mayor of Zalamea.

The Mayor of Zalamea is a drama performed by people of the town. They prepare the performance for 2 months.

How is it celebrated in Zalamea?In the afternoon there is a medieval street market and at

night they do the performance. The festival lasts for 4 days.

The fair of Zalamea.The fair of Zalamea is in September during a week. On

Saturday, they carry the patron saint through the streets in a religious procession.

On 14th of September people from all towns in La Serena come to Zalamea to see the Christ and pray to him.
