ON YOUR MARKS

Assignment description

PracticalFill the sketchbook provided (and anything else you might want to) with any kind of marks. These can be made directly by you, using whatever means; or they could be found and recorded by you.

There will be prizes for:

1. The most beguiling mark 2. The oldest mark. 3. The most ephemeral.4. The most esoteric.

This exercise should be fun, exciting, challenging, irritating, engaging, frustrating, stretching, innovating, invigorating, messy, clean, spikey, smooth, or whatever you want it to be.

You can’t do it wrong – but you can do it well.

TheoryResearch the work of 2 artists whose mark making forms a fundamental part of their practice. Consider the context of the work and discuss individual pieces to illustrate your findings.

There will be lots of theoretical research and discussion at a more advanced level.

PresentationYou will present all of this work in a group critique on your first day in September at 9am in AD08 to Lizzie Weir & Siobain Drury.

You will participate regularly in group critiques

AssessmentThe work produced over the summer will form the basis for your first project that will cover elements of Unit 1:Researching, Recording & Responding in Art & Design and Unit 2.Media Experimentation in Art & Design.
