Copyright laws protect the rights of the

creators.

U.S. government works such as reports and statistics

Works in the public domain works that the author has

Fair Use Guidelines

The rule of fair use allows educators and

students some freedom in reusing copyrighted

material if it is used for the purpose of teaching.

It is also allowed in parody, news reporting and

criticism.

Fair Use Guidelines

The general rule is to not copy more than 10%

of any given literature, music or art and no

profit was received in its reuse.

Even then the source should always be given

credit.

Ask permission

Even if you cite a source you republished it is

good practice to ask permission from the

original owner.

If you use the exact words of an original work

you must surround that sentence with quotation

Paraphrasing is when you read something and

put it entirely in your own words.
