Models

Costume: basic vest, skinny jeans, tied up hair. Casual, peaceful, alternative. Grey hoodie – match house style of magazine. Band merchandise – support for the music industry. Costume: all black.

This groups them from individuals to a band. Allows the creativity of colour within the rest of the page to range and suggests the alternative scene.

This over the shoulder shot is good as audiences feel they get an insight to his situation, however

the lighting of the computer and the mise-en-scene of the bedroom does not match the

studio-type atmosphere that is needed.

The facial expression is in thought and insightful, and seeing the artist at action creating music allows audiences to feel the involvement and

feel as though they will build a relationship with the artist after reading this article.

This lower angle makes the artist look superior and like a role model. The natural atmosphere involves the peaceful theme of the article. However this angle is tilted, for

example the fencing looks at a wonky angle.

This higher angle, just above eye-level, makes audiences see the entire body,

costume and positioning, with a completed background.

Asking the model to look a different direction than the camera allowed the image to look more natural and connotes the lyric-writing atmosphere that is

described in my written article. It makes audiences feel as though they are getting hands-on evidence

and experiences of times that he describes.

This is a more balanced angle than the previous images, however the facial

expression seems more timid – the model needs to be presented as bold and insightful.

The background used is useful as it matches the paleness of the body and levels out the power of the black and white costume. The shadows created

shows a good use of lighting.

I tried to incorporate a close-up in this shot, however I feel that involving the whole body in such a peaceful state would work better for my

double page spread, and showing the entire instrument shows the focus for the music as a

whole.

I found that this angle works well, however I needed to remove the background items to make it look as much like a real photoshoot as possible, such as the clothes in the corner and the shadow of the furniture on the left.

After moving the items, I found that this angle worked well. I changed the camera settings to make the scene brighter and more pure, and ensuring high quality by

selecting a “portrait” setting.

I found that at a gig environment, the lighting was difficult to manipulate due to the unnatural lighting and constant movement and changing. I found that to improve this, I should use the flash and put the camera to “night mode”.

Using the flash made it difficult for the photo to stay in focus in cooperation with the movement and the very low lighting.

This meant I needed to work on the shutter speed and the manual focus.

This lower angle looks professional and suits the indie/alternative design of my magazine. However, this image could be

improved by making the edges finish completely rather than cutting off the

bottom of the guitar, for example.

I like this angle due to the idea of being on a stage and being superior to the

crowd. The shot shows passion in the music and allows them to want to hear what has been produced by this artist.

I think this picture will be used in my magazine as the capture is clean-cut and the use of lighting works well. It is at eye-level to create equality among artists and listeners. The background shows the underground,

indie environment and allows contrast to be created with the vibrant, confident costume

and presentation of the unique artist.

Fitting five people into a portrait shot for my front cover was a challenge. I used a low angle by

kneeling down and stood near the other wall of the alley styled road used. I like this photo I used

because you can see the guitar on the back, showing the music style, and all models look like they belong as a group due to their positioning

and costume.

This model shows the lifestyle of that in the music industry as a result of the messy hair, the casual clothing and the low angle, looking down on the artist. Holding the drum sticks as a prop allows audiences to recognise his role therefore

show more appreciation and understanding.

This photo connotes happiness and beauty as the pink and yellow background, the fluffy hood and

the smile of the female all present femininity. Incorporating this feminine style is important as a

range of audiences, both male and female, or feminine and non-feminine need to be brought in.

This positioning of the models represents fun, friendship and a casual connotation.

The background used allows the blackness of the costume to stand out and gives an edgy scene as a result of the graffiti. The models are looking at the camera in an

inviting manner.

This similarly presents friendship and fun. This gives the idea that the magazine is not too formal and has aspects of amusement and entertainment. This image connotes a good

relationship as a band and a quirky lifestyle due to their expression and body language. This

invites audiences to join this fun. Using the flash allowed the objects to be the main part of the

image, with the background slightly darkened to ensure focus on the models.

This eye-level shot in a children’s fake tour bus can be used to promote tours of this band in an amusing,

friendly manner. The lettering is clear and the expression is excitable.

The landscape orientation was much easier to fit in all models, along with the urban setting. This setting ensures the artists are presented like everyday people rather than those that

are famous/rich/successful to show the realism in the magazine. The low angle with everyone positioned differently shows the

contrast and difference between each member, creating individuality in the band.

Using the dark setting with fairy lights created elegance with the lead singer of my

created band. The mise-en-scene incorporates well due to the repetition of

black to create a theme within the picture. The expression is pretty and innocent, to

bring in more feminine audiences.

I like this image however the brightness needs to be increased and similar editing processes need to take place due to the

disadvantage of the shoot taking place at night. The positioning is conventional for a band and the graffiti background shows the

urban setting.

This happier image shows the relationship between the band to be

positive and interesting. However, some of the faces are covered, such as the two at the back – therefore, it is not

appropriate to use for a main image.

This natural background connotes a gentle music genre. The contrast between the dark clothing and the generally green background creates a visually pleasing image. The care in costume suggests

importance in identity.

The emotion on this model is prominent and connects to the theme

of opening emotions – the distant look connotes his depth of thought.

I liked the idea of the model sitting on the grass because it gives the theme of

conversation and interview, and being comfortable with this. However the identity needs to be kept so the artist would have to

look more towards the camera.

This front facing image, at a below eye-level angle is levelled

equally and connotes the personality of the character.

The distant look works well as suggestions emotion and depth behind the music. The city

landscape is in the background however is noticeable, therefore this should be cut out to

continue the natural theme.

Using the natural background and involving a layered effect with the hanging branches

represents the calmness and sincerity of the content in the article. However, I feel that this

angle and shot looks too common, and wouldn’t be recognised as a photoshoot of a music artist.
