*The word ‘photography’ comes from the the

greek word ‘photo’ which means light, and

‘graphien’ which means to draw. In greek it

creates the sentence ‘drawing with light’

*The word is derived from this sentence

translated from Greek.

*A pinhole camera is a small camera. It is very

simple and lacks even a lens. It has a small

aperture, and Is basically a light proof box with

a pinhole on the other side of it.

*The light tunnels through the pinhole and

projects a photo the wrong way round on the

opposite side of the box. The lens obsurer was

invented in the 10th century by Alhazen.

*The first ever permanent photograph was taken

by Joseph Niepce in 1826. The photo took 8

ours to capture.

*The photo is the view from the top floor

window from his estate in France.

*Henry Talbot invented the process of negative photography. From this photograph multiple copies were created. This includes lots of different processes.

*First the paper is sensitized to light with silver salt solutions.

*He then exposed the paper to light, the subject of the photo was turned into many shades of grey, and the background of the photo became black. This was the negative photo.

*To make it positive, Talbot made multiple contact prints from this one piece of paper, when reversed the light and shadows, made the photo positive.

*The exposure time of cameras has decreased

over the development of cameras.

*As they have developed, exposure time has

decreased, so photos are much more clear and

have less noise, and are much more pleasing to

the eye.

*The first photograph of a human was taken in

1838, called Boulevard Du Temple.

*The photo was taken in Paris

* In 1829, modern photography was born, shdn Louis Daguerre partener with Joseph Niepce. This was because Daguerre could develop the photographic process that Niepce had already invented.

*Whem Niepce in 1839, Daguerre was developing a more effective process which was named after himself.

* The silver was polished, which was were images were mounted on. They were then coated with iodine, which created a surface sensitive to light.

* This plate is then placed in the camera and exposed to light for a few minutes, and it would reflect the image onto the surface.

* Afterwards,Daguerre placed the plate in silver chloride, where the I,age would stay permanent for years and would fade when more light was exposed to it.

*Colour photographs were first used in the

1940’s. Dye couple colours were used in the

film rolls, where a chemical process connected

layers of colours all together. This in turn

created a detail colour photograph.

*Negative slides allowed users/consumers to

take and store multiple photographs on one

“reel” of negative material, which would then

be chemically processed to produce a positive

photo. Before negatives could only take one

photo as It would be saved onto the light

sensitive material, whereas with negatives you

had multiple takes.

*The first point and shoot camera was unveiled

by Kodak in 1963.

*The surreal camera movement was an

extravagant one, where photographers

composed photos that are out of the ordinary,

very surrealistic. Scenes are illogical, and

create strange settings and creatures from

ordinary settings.

*Surrealism was developed around World War I,

it started in Paris, and then spread across the

world

*The pop art movement started in the 1950’s. It

was a new movement that challenged

traditional art, by including popular pictures

from the modern era, such as newspapers and

magazines.

*Some say it is a reaction of the abstract ideas

of expressionism, and an expansion of the

movement itself.

*Abstract photography is like abstract art, in

which it concentrates, on lines, shapes, colour,

form, and texture.

*Often, not all of the picture is in focus. Often

only a small part of it is.

*Abstract photos come in a variation of

patterns, textures, crop, shape, blur, and

expression of movement.

*Minimalist photography is a way of thinking in

terms of photography.

*The world minimal means little, as few as

possible. A minimalist photo is one that that

has as few elements as possible.

*The aim is to display as few conventions as

possible to convey meaning

*Constructivism was an Russian architectural

photography that came to light in 1919.

*Constructivism had an effect on modern

artistic movements in 20th century, that

influenced trends such as Bauhaus.

*Alexsandr Rodchenko was a former artist and

photographer who had a great influence in

constructivism. He was one of the most

versatile constructivist artist to emerge after

the revolution of Russia.
