Opposite determination

It seems obvious that the social reality is not a simple result of an economic situation or GDP that can be calculated in a specific country. It is not determined by personal income, or other easily measureable factors. (2004 German Socio-Economic Panel p. 10)

Well being is rather a complex phenomenon which influencing the economy. And it could influence the development and the future.

4

The influence

Understanding the society seems to be just an another point of view of understanding culture in a broader sense. Culture is a cog in the economic system.

If we can change the culture we can change rules which appears to be constant.

Example: Equilibrium perturbation

In 2010 Peter A. Diamond, Dale T. Mortensen, Christopher A. Pissarides received the Nobel Prize in economic science. (Lindbeck 2001)

Buyers do not want to behave they should in market economy. Buyers and sellers won’t find each other without society and its institutions.

The factor raising to be important is mostly human and communicational, so cultural.

6

Well being There are a lot of research on that What is the problem in quantitative approach. I do not want to catalogue now. I have presentation about this theoretic approach:

Péter Ács – Subjective Economy media communication approach. Liège 2011: “Sustainable economics within the new culture of development” (Université de Liege, Belgium)

Péter Ács – Well-being, participation, communication. 12 October 2010. Universita Degli Di Salerno (Italy) - (Fisciano)

7

Conclusion of theoretic approach

Well being has similar nature to deprivation: •subjective •relative value for an individual.

(Runciman 1966, Yitzhaki 1979, Ferge-Horváth 1980, D'Ambrosio - Frick 2004, Morton-Rossi 2006)

8

Understand more qualitative

Qualitative approach helps the researcher to understand more about the word.

The methodology of interviews and a content analyzes gives some flexible possibilities to understand, measure more about well being.

(Seidman 2002, Krippendorff 2004, Seale 2005)

I would like a tool

10

There are software available

Examples:

•ATLAS.ti (http://www.atlasti.de ) (Script analysis)•The Etnograph (http://QualisResearch.com ) (Script analysis)•NUD●IST and NVivo (http://www.qsr.com.au) (No scientific focus no analysis)•Transana (http://www.transana.org/ ) (Media, scripting, no analysis)•Annotape (http://www.annotape.com/ ) (Media, but not scientific focus, no analysis)

11

Main principles

With cooperation in several project with Université de Franche-Comté we have always keen on keep connection between research tools and actors. Research should be in integration between the research and the action processes.

To support this manner, researchers should work out tools and methodologies, usable for actors. Helping the actors to do, follow and understand the whole process of research.

12

CATALYSE

The method CATALYSE developed by the Territorial Intelligence Team of THEMA of the Universite de Franche-Comté and used by a lot of research partners internationally in projects (REIT, caENTI) based on this kind of approach. (Girardot 2008, Masselot 2008)

Girardot, Jean-Jacques (2008) Evolution of the concept of territorial intelligence within the coordination action of the European network of territorial intelligence in. ReS-Ricerca e Sviluppo per le politiche sociali. Semestrale. Nuova Serie n. 1-2/2008 Numero special (English 11-29)

Masselot, Cyril 2008 Territorial Intelligence Communicational and Community System in. ReS-Ricerca e Sviluppo per le politiche sociali. Semestrale. Nuova Serie n. 1-2/2008 Numero special (English 90-104)

13

Tools of Catalyse

There are several tools and methods developed to gather and analyze data. (Pragma, Anaconda) In lots of cases data is coming from surveys and from other resources.

In this short presentation I would like to introduce a tool which is under construction. A tool which can help turning some kind of qualitative source to quantitative, enabling it to be further analyze with other tools of Catalyse.
