TYPES OF ACTIVITIES

Activities can be individual, team or both.

INDIVIDUAL- e.g. 100m sprint, gymnastics, swimming

TEAM- e.g. football, basketball, hockey

BOTH- e.g. badminton, golf, tennis

TASK 1List 5 activities under each appropriate heading.

Activities can either be

COMPETITIVE or NON-COMPETITIVE

• Competitive activities involve two or more people involved in a contest which each is trying to win. For example tennis, golf, badminton, high jump, swimming

• Non Competitive activities are done for self-satisfaction – sense of achievement, thrill, fitness or just enjoyment. For example hill walking, long distance running, abseiling

COMPETITIVE ACTIVITIES

Competitive activities are either

Directly Competitive or Indirectly Competitive

Directly competitive means that your actions willhave a direct bearing or influence on what youopponent is doing.

Indirectly means that your performance does notaffect that of your opponent.

Altogether there are SIX types of activity:

Individual – Non Competitive e.g. jogging - alone – a self satisfying activity, often for

fitness

Individual – Directly Competitivee.g. Badminton – singles- 1 v 1 activity involving movements from one opponent that affects the other opponents movements

Individual – Indirectly Competitive e.g. Swimming – in lanes and therefore has no affect

others performance

TYPES OF ACTIVITY Team – Non Competitive e.g. Hill Walking – For safety go with at least one

companion, a self satisfying activity

Team – Directly Competitive e.g. Football – 11 v 11 – attack and defend - a “versus”

activity

Team – Indirectly Competitive e.g. 4 x 100 relay race – 4 in a team, must stay in your own

lane, only way to win is to run faster than your opponents

TASK 3 Link the activity with the correct type of activity by
