NATURAL RESOURCES OF NUEVO LEON

What are Natural Resources? Natural resources are things that occur

naturally, and that are useful to us. They include fuels such as oil and natural gas, and materials such as iron ore, and timber.

Natural resources may be renewable or non-renewable

Renewable resources are those that are replaced in nature at a rate close to their rate of use e.g. plants, forests and animals. Care is needed to make sure resources are used sustainably and not over- harvested. There are non-living renewable resources too such as hydroelectric power, solar power, biomass fuel, and wind power.

Non-renewable resources exist in fixed amounts or are used up faster than they can be replaced in nature e.g. fossil fuels. (Fossil fuels could be counted as renewable but as they take millions of years to form they are not practically considered 'renewable'.)

Nuevo León grows corn for animal feed, some fruits and also uses land for husbandry. We also have beautiful national parks protected as natural reserves.

6% of the state surface is used in agriculture. The main crops are corn for animal feed, mandarin orange, apple, orange, pecans, potato, sorghum, grapefruit and wheat.

86% of the land is used for raising livestock. Birds for eggs and meat, cattle, sheep, goat and pork are the main staples.

Zaragoza and Apodaca municipalities also have small-scale fish breeding.

As for wood, needle bush (acacia) and pine trees are the most used resources

Rainfed agriculture is practiced mainly in parts of northwest system gentle plains hills on shallow soils and low fertility. It produces corn, sorghum, wheat, oranges, beans, apple, pear and avocado. It is also practiced in the systems identified as plain and down rocky floor, the main crops: corn, beans and alfalfa.

Agriculture

In areas devoted to irrigated agriculture, which are distributed by the system of hillswith plains, soils are deep, fertile, low slope and stonless. Here it produces corn, sorghum, wheat, oranges, beans, barley, tomatoes, chile, cabbage, carrots, lettuce, pear, grapefruit and tangerine.

The most important wins in number worldwide are related to cattle, sheep and swine. However, in some regions of the world other livestock are more important, such as goats and horses, as well as rabbits, poultry and apiculture.

In Nuevo Leon it is important for some places the animal husbandry because is how the people of that places live and survive.
