Literacy Goal Setting

By: The Fast Cheetahs

This is our CAFÉ Menu, it is where we put our personal goals for reading.

C = Comprehension

“Comprehension is making

connections to a story that happens

in my own life”.

“Comprehension is asking questions about the story when I read”.

A = Accuracy

“Accuracy means I can read the words

in a book”.

“Accuracy is when I ask myself, ‘Does That Make Sense?’ while I am reading

a story”.

F = Fluency

“Fluency is reading like I talk. Not to fast and not to

slow”.

Fluency is using full stops. I take a deep

breath and stop when I see one of

those”.

“ E – Expanding Vocabulary

“Expanding Vocabulary is

learning new and exciting words”

“Expanding Vocabulary is

knowing what big words mean”.

Ask your child what theirreading goal is and help them practice it at home!!

READING IS THINKING!

If children aren’t reading for meaning they aren’t reading at all. Reading is NOT pronouncing words. ~ Paul Jennings
