One of a handful farmhouses surviving in King County’s rural past and is the only one from Flatbush.

- House built for Pieter Lefferts, a lieutenant in the Continental Army during the Revolution. His grandaughter, Gertrude Lefferts Vanderbilt, recorded the history of her family, her community and her landmark home in the Social History of Flatbush, published in 1881.

- In 1917, the estate of John Lefferts offered the home with the condition that it be moved off its original location. The City accepted it and brought the house to Prospect Park in 1918. In 1920 it opened as a museum.

Audio Aided Proposal

•1) To add additional exploration through audio interactivity

•2) Create an open dialogue for the social and cultural histories in and around the house.

•3) To create an intriguing soundscape of the environment as it is believed to have been at the time the Lefferts lived there.

(Which are especially not touched upon with visitors outside of school groups as it is now also)
