Launch Coming Soon & Get Early Leads

Gautham

Why do we have to do this?

Let me bust some myths

Let me enlighten you with a common mistake even mature founders make.

• ‘Build, and they (users) will come’ happens only in wonderland.

• Assuming that users will flock to your product if you take up all the time in the world to build the most beautiful product out there is just a fanciful notion

• Think about it, how many of you are out there, crawling the interwebs for the next product you want to use?

We’re dong this because;• It’s super super hard to get users for your products

• Getting customers (paying users) is at least 5 times more difficult

• The first step to getting users is making sure everybody knows you exist and what you’re upto (Marketing)

• The next step is going to them with a value proposition and getting them to use your product (Sales)

Well, you can’t make sales happen or market your product

right now.Why?

Because you don’t have a product right now.

But you can make yourselfD.I.S.C.O.V.E.R.A.B.L.E

Put yourself out there, grab the attention of every passerby, make sure you stay in

their memory

Launch a ‘Coming

Soon’ page

Make sure it’s remarkableGoogle about Seth Godin’s ‘purple cow’ after you’re done

going through this slide

It’ll be super nice if the page can really stand out

But in the process, don’t forget about these

The page should, at least;

• Explain the product to the user

• A ‘Call-to-action’ that gets the user to share her email id / mobile number

• Provides link to the FB page/Twitter page

• Give them a date on which you’ll launch / make an update

Here’s a list of things you ideally must include

• Your logo and colour palette should be out there for users to see.

• There’s a ‘call-to-action’ for the user. Ideally that should end up with them sharing their contact details

• It gives information about your company, product and the founders. An option for the user to reach out to you is clearly presented

• Links to your company’s/product’s social media pages

• Your value proposition should be clearly stated

• Option to easily share the page on Facebook / Twitter

• Information on when the users should come back to check for more updates

Well, users are coming to your page and giving in their details. What next?

• Make sure some analytics is in place. It’s very easy to setup

• It’ll help you understand where your users are coming from, who they are, where they’re dropping off etc.

• It’ll help you prepare

What are the results you should aim for?

• The user returns to the site to check back what’s going on

• The user willingly shares his contact information and other details with you; you’re getting to know the user better

• The user is bring in more users to the site because he’s referring other users

• The user engages with you and shows sigs of becoming a power user : the kind of users that are most likely to pay

An imperfect ‘Coming soon’ page that’s shipped and live is a million times better than that

imaginary, perfect page that never went live

Don’t forget to have fun building your startup! :-)
