Koria School

Koria school campus

Our school is situated in the center of Koria.

The school started on the 1st of October, 1884.

The number of pupils then was 59.

This is the oldest of the buildings, the wooden school.

It was built from wood given by the village people living in the near surroundings.

Now there are the classes for crafts:textile work as well as technical and wood work

here.

In this plastered building (made 1930) we have 2 classrooms downstairs and one upstairs.

This is the main building of our school. It is made of red brick and has three floors.

Originally it was made in 1957.

In our schoolyard there are a lot of equipment for the pupils to move and exercise during the breaks.

One part of our school is situated about 1,5 km from this campus in the same building

with a day care center.

There are the classes for the 1st and 2nd graders as well as the pre-primary school for the children living in the

neighbourhood there.

There are little less than 400 pupils in Koria school. In the main campus there are 18 classes and 24-26

teachers working. We have 2 special classes for children who need

special education.

There are about 20 other persons working in our school daily. Among these there are 7

special needs assistants working in the classes.

Koria school gives basic education for children between 7 –13.

We want to support, together with the homes, the children to grow up to be healthy, well-being and well-behaving citizens.

Our priorities are to offer: good basic education eg. in Finnish, maths and scienceworkshop-education education and integration of special pupils

Our schoolday is 4 – 6 lessons, starting at 8 or 9. The number of lessons per week varies

between 20 – 25 (+ 2 hours of voluntary language from the 4th class).

All our children get free school lunch.

In the area around the school we have excellent facilities for different sports and

teaching and learning out of the classroom.
