What are IDIOMS?Idioms are expressions, words or phrases that have a figurative meaning. This meaning is different from the literal meaning of the idiom’s individual elements.

How were idioms invented?Till this day, nobody knows exactly how idiomswere invented.

WHY ARE IDIOMS IMPORTANT TO LEARN AND RECOGNIZE?

Idioms are an important part of every language. Therefore, as a language learner, knowing idioms is useful in at least two ways: 1) The more idioms

you use the more native-like your language will sound; 2) By learning idioms, you learn a lot about the culture of the community speaking

English.

William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. He was very popular and well known for his use of idioms.

Learning idioms shows that you are very intellectual and a smart

individual, which raises your rank between your colleagues. Idioms can also be used in your resume,

which will definitely increase your chances of getting your dream job.

1. When pigs fly=Something which will never happen

2.Blowing smoke: Saying something which has no value or benefit

3.Costs an arm and a leg = very expensive

4.Let the cat out of the bag: to accidentally reveal a secret

5.Break a leg: Good luck

6.Piece of cake: something which is very easy

7.Taste of your own medicine:What goes round comes round

8.Once in a blue moon : very rare; a thing or an event which occurs rarely.

9.All ears: listening very carefully

10.To feel under the weather: not feeling well; sick
