Risk Management Project

•This is the beginning of a 4 part assignment to develop a Risk Management Plan (RMP)

•RMP Part “A” is “Setting The Stage”, which is about determining what the issue is and some key pieces of information required to be successful

Assignment # 2

Risk Management Project• The aim of this assignment is to apply the theory learned in all the units of your course to the development of a simulated risk management plan.

• You will use the CAN/CSA-Q850-97 framework from the readings to help you develop this plan.

Risk Management Project• This assignment involves 4 stages or parts. •The process will include identifying a hazard, identifying the stakeholders involved, preparing a preliminary analysis of the hazard and a risk estimation; then drafting a management plan for the topic you have chosen.

• This assignment is an iterative process, where the final report is build upon the work that you do throughout the class.

• The last RMP assignment deals with how the media might handle your RMP.

• In developing this plan, you are not expected to demonstrate expertise in toxicology, epidemiology or statistics.

• What your instructor is looking for is a solid demonstration of your understanding of the requirements of the risk management process, clearly communicated, following the CAN/CSA-Q850-97 format.

Choose One!

A principal of a local school approaches you. Concerned parents are coming to his office with an article from the Globe & Mail. This discusses a recent study that showed high levels of arsenic in wood preservatives used on the school playground equipment.

Concerned citizens approach you. They have been told their local water supply does not meet the Canadian drinking water standards. They have read about the deaths from the E. coli contamination of the Walkerton town water supply.

RMP – Part “A”1) Define the risk management problem or issue. The

statement should not exceed 100 words. (Section 4.2)

2) Identify the risk management team for your simulated plan. List members by title and role on the team. (Section 4.3)

3) Assign responsibility, authority, and resources for the project. Describe who is responsible for what and briefly outline what resources are available to complete the project. You may use a diagram, table, or statement of not more that 200 words. (Section 4.4)

RMP – Part “A”

4. Identify a list of potential stakeholders. Match each stakeholder with its relationship to the issue. For example: Provincial Government -- enforcement of legislation (name of act); XXX Union -- representative for workers; Friends of the Environment Group -- environmental community group; etc. (Sections 4.5.1 and 4.5.2)
