Primary Goals:

– To provide three safe, appropriate, fun outdoor learning environments.

– To create a variety of safe surfaces, textures, tastes, smells, sounds and the sights for children.

– To provide children the opportunity to climb, crawl, hide and engage in a range of motor activities.

– To offer a model of appropriate, high-quality outdoor play environments for JCCC students in the early childhood courses and for visitors from the general community.

– Observation and Master Planning - Two-day visit by consultant to view space and meet with design committee. - Discuss future maintenance issues, organize plan group, recruit community volunteers and determine resources needed.

– Detailed Design and Planning - Design drawings reviewed and approved. - List of materials, labor, tools and equipment needed for build provided.

– Planning and Preparation - Recruit volunteers. - Solicit for materials and resources. - Determine plan, schedule and obtain permits.

– Community Build - Consultant with two build leaders will coordinate and lead volunteers from the community. Depending on size of project, typically takes 5 days.
