POINT

The basic unit of Geometry;

has no size and is labeled with capital letters

LINE

A series of points that extends without end in

two directions

PLANE

A flat surface that extends without end in all

directions.

COMPASS

A tool used to draw arcs and circles.

PERIMETER

The distance around a figure.

AREA

The number of square unites needed to cover a

figure’s surface.

WHOLE NUMBERS

Numbers that include zero and the counting numbers

INTEGERS

Zero, positive numbers, and negative numbers

RATIONAL NUMBERS

Any number that can be written as a fraction (a/b)

EQUATION

A statement that includes the symbol =

MIDPOINT

Separates a segment into two segments of equal

length

COORDINATE PLANE

The grid used to locate points in a plane

ORDERED PAIR

The coordinates of a point that locates the point on

the coordinate plane

OPPOSITE RAYS

Two rays that are part of the same line and have only their endpoints in

common.

ANGLE

A figure formed by two noncollinear rays that

have a common endpoint.

VERTEX

The common endpoint of an angle

DEGREES

The unit used to measure angles

RIGHT ANGLES

An angle measuring exactly 90°

ACUTE ANGLES

An angle measuring less than 90°

OBTUSE ANGLES

An angle measuring more than 90°

ANGLE BISECTOR

A ray that bisects the angle

LINEAR PAIR

Two angles that share a vertex and have a common side, while the noncommonsides form a straight line. The angles add up to 180°

Two angles whose measures add up to 180°
